What two-wheeler insurance generally is

A two-wheeler policy is a contract with an insurer covering the motorcycle or scooter described in it. The policy wording decides what is covered, what is excluded and how any claim is handled. The cover available to you depends on the vehicle, its registration and its actual permitted use.

Who this route is for

This route applies where the vehicle to be insured is a motorcycle, scooter or other applicable two-wheeler.

  • Owners of a motorcycle or scooter used for personal, family or commuting purposes
  • First-time two-wheeler owners who want the cover structures explained before deciding
  • Existing policyholders who want renewal and add-on terminology explained

Personal / Private use

This route is for two-wheelers in personal and private use. Naming a use on this website does not confirm eligibility for any specific product.

  • Personal / Private — motorcycles and scooters used primarily for personal, family, commuting or permitted private purposes.
  • A two-wheeler used for business or delivery work is classified differently, and this route does not cover it.
  • The final classification depends on the RC classification, actual permitted use, the applicable insurer, underwriting and the product terms.

Scope

What this route generally covers

General guidance only. The applicable policy wording decides what is covered in any specific case.

What it generally covers

  • Covered legal liability toward third parties, where the policy includes that section
  • Covered accidental loss or damage to the insured two-wheeler, where the policy includes the own-damage section
  • Insured perils as listed in the applicable policy wording
  • Optional add-ons, where the insurer offers them and they are selected and charged

What it generally does not cover

  • Normal wear and tear, depreciation and mechanical or electrical breakdown
  • Use outside what the policy and the vehicle's registration permit
  • Anything the applicable policy wording lists as an exclusion
  • Losses outside the policy period or the geographical area stated in the policy

Optional

Optional add-ons commonly discussed

Add-ons are optional and subordinate to the base cover. One applies only where the insurer offers it, it is selected, it is charged and it is recorded on the policy.

  • Zero / Nil Depreciation

Where offered, it changes how depreciation is applied to covered part replacement in an own-damage claim.

  • Roadside Assistance

Where offered, it provides defined on-road support services within the insurer's stated scope and limits.

  • Engine Protection

Where offered, it extends cover to specified engine-related damage that the base policy would not address.

  • Return to Invoice

Where offered, it changes the basis of settlement in a total-loss or theft claim, subject to the insurer's conditions.

  • Consumables

Where offered, it covers specified consumable items used during a covered repair, as listed by the insurer.

  • NCB Protection

Where offered, it changes how the No Claim Bonus is treated after a permitted number of claims, subject to conditions.

Important terms

Use has to match the registration

A vehicle used differently from what its registration and policy permit can affect how a claim is treated. Where the use changes, the insurer should be told.

Add-ons are not automatic

An add-on applies only where the insurer offers it, it is selected, it is charged and it is recorded on the policy.

Owner-driver personal accident cover is separate

This is accident-related protection for the eligible owner-driver, subject to the applicable policy, eligibility requirements and terms. It is not cover for damage to the vehicle.

Common mistakes

  • Assuming a comprehensive policy means that every possible loss is covered
  • Using a privately registered two-wheeler for commercial delivery work without telling the insurer
  • Letting the policy lapse and assuming the same terms will be offered at renewal
  • Assuming an add-on applies when it was never selected or charged

Claims

How a claim generally proceeds

Educational only. The applicable insurer decides every claim.

  1. Accident or loss occurs

Something happens that may give rise to a claim under the policy.

  2. Ensure immediate safety

Safety of the people involved comes first, before anything to do with the policy.

  3. Notify the appropriate authorities where required

Some incidents require the police or other authorities to be informed. Requirements vary by situation and applicable law.

  4. Inform the insurer promptly

Policies generally expect the insurer to be told about a loss without delay. The intimation channel is set by the insurer.

  5. Provide the required information and documents

The insurer states what it needs for the specific claim. CAREALL does not collect claim documents through this website.

  6. Inspection or assessment where applicable

The insurer may arrange an inspection or a survey before deciding how the claim is handled.

  7. Repair or settlement according to the policy

The outcome of a claim is decided by the applicable insurer under the policy wording and applicable law.

FAQs

Two-Wheeler questions

Personal or private use generally covers commuting, family and other permitted private purposes. A two-wheeler used for business purposes such as delivery work is classified differently and is not part of this route. Which classification applies depends on the vehicle's registration and how it is actually used, and it is confirmed by the applicable insurer, not by this website.

A liability-only structure is one of the available cover structures. Whether it is suitable depends on your circumstances, because it does not address loss of or damage to your own vehicle. The exact terms are set by the applicable policy wording and applicable law.

Some insurers offer add-ons on two-wheeler policies. Availability depends on the insurer, the product, the vehicle and the cover structure chosen. An add-on applies only where it is offered, selected, charged and recorded on the policy.

No. You do not need to upload insurance documents or identity documents through this enquiry form. The applicable insurer or service process may request additional information later.
